Minority905-10

Minority 905 is a pop-punk band founded by then-17-year-old John Aquinoand former members of the band in August 2013. The name was inspired by Green Day’s song “Minority” and Aquino’s hometown of Mississauga, ON, Canada (its area code is 905). Aquino identified with the word “Minority” since he believed that the combination of his ethnicity, personality, and interests were rare in the punk rock scene.

Aquino met former member Aidan Collins on YouTube, after Collins saw a few of Aquino’s covers and contacted him. However, he did not join the band until early 2014 when the band needed a bassist. Collins joined and became the new bassist.

Throughout the next few months, Minority 905 played as much as they could, wherever possible–birthday parties, house parties, local bars, and local venues. Eventually, they were noticed by local producer, Mason Dayot at a show they played in Brampton–which was also the last show the former drummer played. Without an official drummer, Minority 905 went on to record their debut EP titled Luck Is For Losers with Dayot, who played the drums for the record.

Soon after the record released, current drummer Spasimir Vasilev joined Minority 905. Vasilev met the members at a previous show where he volunteered to sing “Blitzkrieg Bop” (The Ramones) with Minority 905. Once again, the band played many local shows and even opened for the bands Such Gold and Transit. In December 2014, they went on a weekend mini-tour with local bands Setback and Triumph Over Adversity.

In 2015, the lead guitarist left the band and Collins opted to start playing lead guitar instead of the bass. Current bassist Steven Wolwyn joined soon afterwards. The band closely worked with Dayot throughout the songwriting process during the early months of 2015 in preparation for the next record, which would be their first full-length album.

In July 2015, Collins left the band due to his family moving out of the city, and Dayot then decided he was going to take over guitar duties; as well as continue to be the main man to produce Minority 905’s album Broken, Not Beaten”

In March 2016, Mason left the band to pursue teaching English in Japan, and current guitarist, Chris Goodfellow joined the band in July 2016.

In today’s overcrowded Metal scene it’s virtually impossible for a band to rise up and stand out, against the odds, that’s what Fear Is Dead is doing.
Since 2011 they’ve been racking up large numbers of awe inspiring live performances, Fear is Dead has garnered the acclaim of many of New York’s underground, bringing fans from the Metal scene, and Hardcore / Punk scene together. Melting faces from BK’s Knitting Factory to LES Mercury Lounge, most recently packing out Brooklyn’s new Metal haven Lucky 13 Saloon. Their unique sound and intense energy some would say is reminiscent of early Machine Head and Korn.

  • Established in 2011 by Skila and Jacqueline Burns, the early line up included Anthony Moreno Brown on drums. Jax’s guitar and bass stylings set the tone for the heavy sound that would evolve to what we hear today. They released two EPs, Fear Is Dead in 2011, and Mourning Ritual in 2013, that were both well received. Songs like “I’m Slow” “Lie to Me” and “Boomerang” are still requested by fans today.

IMG 20170809 155957 680

The band went on hiatus in 2014, and in 2015 Skila returned with a new line up, composed of Matt Pompeii on Bass, Carlos Crowcell on Drums, and newcomer David English on Guitars. This new Fear Is Dead still had the trademark strong groove and poetic introspective lyrics, but was musically much heavier and darker than it’s earlier incarnation. In the beginning of 2016 the band released their 3rd EP, Eleutherophobia. An appropriately more aggressive project, reflecting the times personally, socially, and politically. Songs like “Pretty Ugly” and “Miranda” quickly became underground favorites.

In mid 2017 the band released their 4th EP titled What Remains (2017). This project was musically more experimental and creative, and, lyrically from a darker, more personal place.

The band’s 5th EP Omnicidal is expected to be released late July 2018, followed but the Omnicidal West Coast Tour Aug 5th thru the 18th.

Their music, videos, and art work all embody what Fear Is Dead is about: evolving musically and artistically. Losing yourself to find yourself, even for a moment.

PHOENIX RISING, based out of Dallas, Texas, came together in 2017 in the most unlikely of places: a Craigslist ad posted by Vocalist Kent Summerour in search of like-minded musicians who not only wanted to make music with substance, but who wanted to create a live spectacle like nothing else in the local music scene. After a short search and a lot of luck, the ad was answered by five seasoned musicians one of whom was Australian. Comprised of a second vocalist, guitar, synth and a whole lot of rhythm, PHOENIX RISING was born.

Like setting fire to gas, the newly formed group had written an album’s worth of material in one month, and the search for producers began. This search led PHOENIX RISING to Tyler Smyth; however Smyth was on tour six hours away in San Antonio . With no way to get in touch with Smyth, Kent went down to San Antonio with a pillow and a sleeping bag, on a mission to maneuver himself back stage, and persuade Smyth to listen to the demos, hoping that after hearing the music, Smyth would be driven to work with the band. Mission Complete, Smyth agreed to work with PHOENIX RISING in LA and shortly thereafter, the band flew out to record their debut album From the Ashes.

With the Album complete, supported by several Music Video’s – PHOENIX RISING now look forward to drawing emotion from the listener and inspire fans with their powerful stage show. The music has a very “overcoming” quality to it. Musically and lyrically, PHOENIX RISING wants you to stand up for what you believe in and overcome any and all adversity that blocks your path.

Another Day’s Armor is a Rock / Alternative Metal band from New York. Combining the huge, mainstream sound of arena rock with borderline metal instrumental work, the band started to create a buzz for themselves with debut singles “Reflections” and “Simple As Sin.” Coming off the momentum of the previous two singles, the band has been working on their debut EP which is set to release mid summer 2018.

Coming up in a time where very few bands put any emphasis into their image and persona, ADA pride themselves on standing out from the crowd both visually, and musically. With an image reminiscent of a time where rock was on top of the music world, Another Day’s Armor refuses to be just another “faceless” band, wanting their fans to feel connected to every member: Logan Manganelli – Vocals, Nick Palma – Lead Guitar, Ryan Bicknell – Rhythm Guitar, Joe Grunski – Bass, and Alec Keshishian – Drums.

Another Day’s Armor aren’t just a band, they are a movement for the future of rock.

THRILLKILLER Release Official Music Video for Title Single Off of ‘San Francisco Moto’

Baltimore, MD based rock band THRILLKILLERhas released the official music video for their single “San Francisco Moto,” the title track of their June 2nd released EP.

San Francisco Moto takes the explosive influences of the band to the next level. From the synthwave inspired track, the King of 1984 to the funk/metal fusion songs Wicked Rhythm and San Francisco Moto, this album includes songs recorded and engineered by Tony Corelli (Deep End Studios) and Derrin Ruschell (Stingray Studios). San Francisco Moto visually takes heavily from 80s cinema as explored upon in the two music videos supporting the release(“The King of 1984” and “San Francisco Moto”).

The music videos dive head first into 80 sci fi/action movie territory telling the story of Rex RazorDelorean driving time cop, part cinematic experience, part music video, the visual and auditory experience that Thrillkiller delivers is truly unique.

Player

“This EP pushed the boundaries of our music into uncharted territory. The Brothers Johnson, The Gap Band, and a host of other classic funk acts made a huge impact on songs like ‘San Francisco Moto’ and ‘Wicked Rhythm,’ while the stylings of synthwave acts like Lazerhawk and Mitch Murder were sprinkled into The King of 1984 and the Theme of Rex Razor. Last Horizon takes elements from a mixture of heavy metal and a little bit of Bad Religion rounding out the track listing nicely. The release also doubles as a companion piece for our music video universe we’ve recently launched, complete with full blown 80s movie artwork.” – Rob Bradley

After the success of their debut music video, “The King of 1984,” Thrillkiller was back to work at new releases and a follow up video based off of their new single, “San Francisco Moto.” Like the last video, Thrillkiller launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to let fans take part in the creation process of this upcoming music video event followed by a summer tour along the east coast.

“I can’t think of anything that sounds like this” Gary Thorn, Shockwave Magazine

“If you are a fan of music at all, you owe it to yourself to give Thrillkiller a listen and meet your new favorite band of 2016.” C., Metal To Infinite Webzine

“Thrillkiller has the chance to be the breakout band of 2016” Andy Davis, Heavy Metal Time Machine

“Every track, member, and part absolutely slays, taking a wander down through the different levels of writing and mix never becomes boring. This is no cheap mock up behind a single individual, nor a gilded lily.” Si Marks, You Can Find Me On The Edge

Their members have shared the stage with acts such as The Protomen, Sebastian Bach, Metal Church, Stratovarius, Pagan’s Mind, Symphony X, and many more. Exploding on the scene in the fall of 2015, mixing elements of metal, rock, pop and others, Thrillkiller delivers a viciously unique style of music. With the launch of their debut EP, Time in January of 2016, followed by their totally fan funded debut release, Showdown in summer of 2016. In 2017 and 2018 the band created two back to back cinematic music videos alongside their new EP, San Francisco Moto.

“Every hour wounds, but the last one kills.” – Anonymous
The new EP titled Fragile Machine to be released on July 6th, 2018, explores the questions of what comes next in human evolution. What does it mean to be a human, if consciousness can be stored in a machine?
The artwork depicts an enormous server cube floating in space, after the technological singularity, which contains mankind’s digitized minds living forever in an infinite dream created from code. The material christened ‘Scorecore’ by the band, ranges in dynamics and will resonate with fans familiar with heavy weights such as Soilwork, Amaranthe, and In Flames.

Embracing the mentality of a collective art project, the core members–ex-Divinity guitarist Alan Sacha Laskow (ENDITOL, the Order of the Gray, Walk As Chaos), bassist Brent Stutsky (ex-Breach of Trust, ex-Death Valley Dolls), along with vocalist Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster (ex-Out of Your Mouth, ex-Autobody, ex-the R.A.C.E.) pulled together an insanely talented cast of collaborators including:

Guest Vocals by Andrew Ivashchenko (Shokran), Renny Carroll (Flux Conduct), Jonathan Thorpenberg (The Unguided), David Chunn (Vallite) and Mark Haggblad (Unveil the Strength)
Guest Guitar Solos by Andy James, Mattias IA Eklundh, Daniele Gottardo and Paul Wardingham.

Additional Guitar Production by Carson Slovak (August Burns Red, Everclear)

The self titled first EP was released by the band in 2015 to critical acclaim, leading to live performances with: Godsmack, Apocalyptica, Trivium, Obey the Brave, Into Eternity, and Kobra and the Lotus, as well as Premieres with Revolver and Metal Underground, and collaborations with production heavyweights like Joey Sturgis and Will Putney. The band was awarded a music video grant for “Almost Human” from Telus Storyhive and primary composer Sacha was the featured artist for Toontrack Metal Month: https://www.toontrack.com/news/customer-spotlight-alan-sasha-laskow/

Katarzyna Cepek

A hard-driving Southern rock unit based out of Palestine, Texas, Blacktop Mojo’s fiery blend of post-grunge, classic rock, and metal falls somewhere between Soundgarden, Black Stone Cherry, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Founded in 2012 by front-man Matt James and drummer Nathan Gillis, the band eventually morphed into a five-piece with the additions of bass player Matt Curtis and guitarists Ryan Kiefer and Kenneth Irwin. They released their debut album, I Am, in 2014, followed by a heavy bout of touring that saw the group sharing the stage with a wide array of heavy hitters, including Bon Jovi, Sammy Hagar, Candlebox, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Shaman’s Harvest, Pop Evil, Puddle of Mudd, and Drowning Pool.

In 2017, the band teamed up with Muscle Shoals producer Jimmy Johnson for their highly anticipated sophomore outing Burn the Ships. The album was released via the band’s label, Cuhmon Records, in March of that year to critical acclaim, and it’s first single, “Where The Wind Blows” reached #27 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, while the band was on its first U.S. tour that fall. Through that tour, they landed a slot on 2018’s Rock Fest, featuring headliners Disturbed, Incubus, and Godsmack, among many other industry leading hard rock acts.

At the beginning of 2018, the band has started work on its third full length release, as well as touring to support the second radio single from, Burn The Ships.

JULIEN-K Release Official Music Video for “Photo Voltaire”

Long Beach, CA based Indietronic band JULIEN-K has released the official music video for their single, “Photo Voltaire.”. Originally premiered on Tattoo.com, “Photo Voltaire” is off of their 2015 released California Noir

JULIEN-K are also currently running an Indiegogo campaign to fund their upcoming LP, Harmonic Disruptor.

Video

“‘Photo Voltaire’ is very much a song about the struggle in our lives as artists – and for once, about a victory. I thought of the concept for the song lyrics and meaning one day at 5AM, prepping my board at the beach to surf in CA_X, and the unfinished version of the song we had been playing with for months but could not ‘solve’ was solved immediately by the sun exploding over the ocean line @ nearly 6am …. The concept ‘Photo Voltaire’ – the explosion of the sun in my own words – and the chorus popped into my head. This has been an analog for the band ever since. All the touring, crowdfunding, fan support, and so much more that has happened for us since we gave in to total honesty and authenticity. Our fans connect with this and us. All the opportunities – it’s like the sun exploding out of nowhere in our lives.” – Julien-K

Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck have been musical partners for 15+ years. During their time together they have weaved in and out of mainstream music like a constantly evolving musical fashion house. In the late 90’s they were responsible for massive radio and sales hits such as “Blind” (Korn), “Blue Monday,” ” Stitches,” and “Fiction” (Orgy), and recently “Crawl Back In” and “Let Down” (Dead By Sunrise, with their pal Chester Bennington). After enjoying years of traditional music business success, they have spent the last 10 years methodically moving away from the mainstream approach that put them on the map, opting to carefully steer their fans in a new direction, towards their new independent alternative electro rock project Julien-K – which sounds more at home with the likes of modern acts such as M83, The Kills, LCD Soundsystem, The Naked And Famous, Empire Of The Sun, and even The Black Keys (see Derakh’s sleazy electro-blues guitar playing on “We’re Here With You”).

2009 saw the long-awaited release of their debut album Death to Analog, which included long-time collaborators Anthony “Fu” Valcic and Brandon Belsky, with Belsky and drummer Elias Andra rounding out the live show. After Belsky and Andra’s 2010 departure, Julien-K’s studio line-up solidified as the trio of Derakh, Shuck and Valcic, while collaborations with electronic music innovators such as Bryan Black (Motor, Black Asteroid), Sharooz, Z-Listers, Vandal, and others revved up the writing phase of 2012’s sophomore We’re Here With You. The touring cycle that followed saw the band hit the south-west US and Europe – with festivals as far and wide as Hildesheim (Germany), Utrecht (Netherlands), and Vladivostok (Russia) – and many sold-out shows in their native LA.

Jk2017b

In July 2014, Julien-K launched their third album cycle with a 3-song prelude to an ambitious double concept album / esthetic movement that they called California Noir^^. The CA Noir spirit was given a visual representation in November 2014 with the release of the haunting video for the title track, showcasing the struggle to discover the meaning of the Californian dream.

The concept continued in 2015 and 2016 with two wildly successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaigns and subsequent (self-)releases of the two chapters California Noir: Analog Beaches and Digital Cities and California Noir: Nightlife in Neon, which established the band as musical innovators, digital pioneers, and fully independent music entrepreneurs shaking up the underground scene.

In 2017, the band released Time Capsule: A Future Retrospective, a 4 disk, 64 song mega-package aimed at the band’s core fanbase, which consisted of unreleased songs, b-sides, never heard before remixes, and live versions of some of their biggest hits.

Julien-K has become a crowdfunding giant, with all 4 of their campaigns hitting and holding the #1 Indiegogo chart position for the duration of the campaigns.

After a successful summer 2017 tour alongside PIG and Ghostfeeder, 2018 will see the band hit the stages around the world again on headline tours, as well as in support of their friends Bush, Stone Temple Pilots, and The Cult. Being the workaholics that they are, Ryan, Amir and Fu are also already working on a new album, Harmonic Disruptor (this time with the addition of new collaborators Bidi Cobra and Alex Gonzales), that will see the band go back to their roots, while including some new aural surprises at the same time. Catch them on the road this year to find out more!
