In today’s overcrowded Metal scene it’s virtually impossible for a band to rise up and stand out, against the odds, that’s what Fear Is Dead is doing.
Since 2011 they’ve been racking up large numbers of awe inspiring live performances, Fear is Dead has garnered the acclaim of many of New York’s underground, bringing fans from the Metal scene, and Hardcore / Punk scene together. Melting faces from BK’s Knitting Factory to LES Mercury Lounge, most recently packing out Brooklyn’s new Metal haven Lucky 13 Saloon. Their unique sound and intense energy some would say is reminiscent of early Machine Head and Korn.

Established in 2011 by Skila and Jacqueline Burns, the early line up included Anthony Moreno Brown on drums. Jax’s guitar and bass stylings set the tone for the heavy sound that would evolve to what we hear today. They released two EPs, Fear Is Dead in 2011, and Mourning Ritual in 2013, that were both well received. Songs like “I’m Slow” “Lie to Me” and “Boomerang” are still requested by fans today.

IMG 20170809 155957 680

The band went on hiatus in 2014, and in 2015 Skila returned with a new line up, composed of Matt Pompeii on Bass, Carlos Crowcell on Drums, and newcomer David English on Guitars. This new Fear Is Dead still had the trademark strong groove and poetic introspective lyrics, but was musically much heavier and darker than it’s earlier incarnation. In the beginning of 2016 the band released their 3rd EP, Eleutherophobia. An appropriately more aggressive project, reflecting the times personally, socially, and politically. Songs like “Pretty Ugly” and “Miranda” quickly became underground favorites.

In mid 2017 the band released their 4th EP titled What Remains (2017). This project was musically more experimental and creative, and, lyrically from a darker, more personal place.

The band’s 5th EP Omnicidal is expected to be released late July 2018, followed but the Omnicidal West Coast Tour Aug 5th thru the 18th.

Their music, videos, and artwork all embody what Fear Is Dead is about: evolving musically and artistically. Losing yourself to find yourself, even for a moment.

Divine Era Releases ‘Scripture Codes Summon Suicidal Thoughts’

LA based groove metal artist DIVINE ERA has released his third full length album, Scripture Codes Summon Suicidal Thoughts, an 11 track, intensely layered collection of face melting metal tracks.

“Divine Era’s music is strongly influenced by Pantera and old Machine Head. This newest album, “Scripture Codes Summon Suicidal Thoughts,” definitely has that old school heavy metal vibe. I sing and scream throughout the groovy riffs entwine with calculated drum patterns.

I love playing guitar solos. You will hear plenty on this LP. I’m not much of a shredder. I do my own thing with feel and a lot of chicken picking. My main personal influences are Dimebag Darrell, SRV and Zakk Wylde.
The main focus is to not only write groovy songs that make people move, but to compose different sounding songs; each with its own color making them all easily identifiable.

I’m very happy with how this album came out and hope you enjoy listening as well.” – Divine Era

Half Blood Release Official Music Video for “Self Exile”

Santiago, Chile based metal band Half Blood have released their Official Video for “Self Exile”, the second single off of their self-titled, debut album due out later this year.

We were really tired about the empty lyrics of pop music, even on the metal scene in some cases, there’s so much happening around the world right now and it seems that it didn’t care, true pain, true horror, but all that matters now are how big is your ass or how much money do you have playing like a fake gangsta, so fuck it, we choose Self Exile. – Half Blood

Official | Facebook | YouTube | Instagram

HALF BLOOD was created in late 2014 when Manuel Castillo (ex-Dissors) and Pablo Abatte (Nueve Círculos) began the search for a new live and studio, professional sound. Javier Contreras (ex-Dissors) later joined the project and together they started composing HALF BLOOD’s first songs.

In the process of finding HALF BLOOD’s sound, Sebastián Aguilera (ex-Wormhole Project) and Francisco Arévalo (electric bass professor from Instituto ProJazz and session musician) joined the band. After writing 15 songs and with the intention of recording they got in touch Logan Mader (ex-Machine Head and producer for Gojira, Cavalera Conspiracy, Fear Factory, etc.) who showed interest in the project and took it on.

The HALF BLOOD debut, self-titled album was recorded at Logan Mader Studio in September 2016. Due to personal differences, Javier Contreras stepped aside, giving way to Ismael Gutiérrez (ex-Sumission and Kitsune Metaru).

HALF BLOOD will be released in mid 2017 and will be available in physical and digital format through Itunes, Spotify, Amazon.

Fear Control Release Official Music Video “Masks”

Austin, TX-Metal artists Fear Control release their newest video. “Masks” is the latest single off Fear Control’s 2015 EP titled The Monster. Vocalist and guitarist Kash Sarkaria had this to say about the video:
“This song is about one of the toughest times in my life with a a long-term relationship ending and just coming to the realization that it was time to move on, whether we wanted to or not. For the video, I randomly found this location under a bridge in Austin and loved it so much that we did our band photo shoot here as well as the music video. I just love the juxtaposition of light and dark and the endless pillars in the background. We got it all done in an afternoon, despite 20+ takes. But we couldn’t be happier with the final result.”

Upcoming Shows

3/10 – Austin, TX @ Dirty Dog Bar (SXSW)

3/18-Harker Heights, TX @ All Bottoms Up

5/5 – Austin, TX @ Dirty Dog Bar

5/28 – San Antonio, TX @ Fitzgerald’s
