“Let It Out has always been our most popular song, I think because it best represents the things that make us a unique band: complex arrangements, cool violin parts, high energy and honest lyrics. We wanted a video that would showcase the song while giving people who don’t know us an idea of what we’re like live, so we went with a simple performance video, using lighting tricks in post to emphasize the lyrical message and structure of the song. We were fortunate enough to work with some immensely talented people in the studio and behind the camera, and they really helped us bring this project to life.” – Hunt For Hunter

Hunt for Hunter DUMBO 20180629 1130 edit1 Reduced

Hunt for Hunter is a 4-piece symphonic rock band based in New York City. “Symphonic rock” may sound like an ambitious genre to claim, but this is a band that was explicitly formed with the intention of creating music without limits or boundaries. Originally conceived in 2014 as an acoustic folk duo by Ian Hunt (drums) and Michael Hunter (vocals/electric violin/keys), Hunt for Hunter found some initial success playing in small bars, cafés and colleges around the Northeast. They occasionally experimented with hiring additional players to play Hunter’s heavier, less folksy material, but lacking a clear sense of direction the band eventually came to a crossroads in the winter of 2018.

The choice was simple, to take the easy, safer path and continue on as a folk duo, or go for broke and attempt the impossible: form a successful, original rock ‘n roll band in NYC. They chose the latter, and as luck would have it, Chris Kelly (bass) and Patrick Brennan (guitar) were ready and waiting to sign on. All four members had actually played with each other before through their day jobs as professional freelance musicians. Equipped with a considerable level of proficiency and unified by their desire to play exciting, original music they began writing and rehearsing in earnest.

Drawing inspiration from diverse influences like Queens Of The Stone Age, Soundgarden, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and more modern bands like Manchester Orchestra, The Dear Hunter and Nothing But Thieves, the quartet set upon their mission to create an ambitious yet accessible sound. The result is a band that successfully combines the raw emotion and energy of rock ‘n roll with the intricate orchestrations and virtuosity of classical music. Now poised to share their music with the world, Hunt for Hunter is proud to carry the label “symphonic rock.”

Advance Praise for Cross & Divide

“a true electro-rock masterpiece ..This is hands down the best electronic rock album that I’ve heard all year long!” – XS Rock

“While it may be hard to separate the Wax Trax! origins of Trash Deity’s members, you don’t have to be a dyed-in-the-wool aficionado to get your ass shaking to this album. Rather songs from this album should fit comfortably alongside contemporary dance floor numbers. That’s all to say rivetheads will love it, but even genre outsiders will find an appreciation for Cross and Divide.” – The Void Report

“Frank Nardiello (better known as Groovie Mann of Thrill Kill Kult) and John D. Norten (of Blue Eyed Christ) have teamed up to form Trash Deity. Their debut album, “Cross and Divide,” brings the Wax Trax! Sound to a new generation…a pounding dance beat, throbbing electronics, found sound samples, and heavily processed vocals…Over all, I like this, and if you’re a Wax Trax fan, you will too.” – Jersey Beat

Cross & Divide is as seductive as it is addictive; a great and fun listen from point A. to point B.” – The Noise Beneath The Snow

Coming from Los Angeles with roots in the legendary Chicago Wax Trax! scene is the new duo Trash Deity. Combining the chaos and energy of the classic Wax Trax! sound updated with hard and modern production, Trash Deity is Groovie Mann aka Franke N. Nardiello (My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and accomplished music producer and Industrial artist John D. Norten (Blue Eyed Christ). The debut Single, “Finger on a Trigger”, combined classic Groovie Mann vocals and cryptic lyrics with an infectious heavy electronic/guitar groove benefitting from Norten’s studio experience with major artists. The accompanying unique Music Video was comprised entirely of manipulated shots of paintings from the twisted imagination and eccentric mind of Groovie Mann. The second single and video, “Run 4 Your Lies!” was released in 2017 solidifying Trash Deity and catching the attention of Metropolis Records

2018 marks the anticipated release of the debut album, Cross & Divide, on Metropolis Records.

Cross & Divide Album is an album for now and is a representation of the confrontational and divisive times we live in. It’s a journey into the manic world of Trash Deity from the opening invitation of “Let’s run away” to the powerful closing Album statement “Change”. Each song has its own identity, but the album was designed to be a trip on a journey. It sounds totally cohesive and totally chaotic at the same time…just like us!” – JDN

What was the earliest influence in your life that led you to a music career?

the vibrations from my mother’s record player that she kept under my crib. She was 19. – Groovie Mann

Nardiello’s informally structured and yet deeply storied career began with his first band, Special Affect, including Marti Sorenson & Harry Rushakoff (Concrete Blonde) with Al Jourgensen (Ministry) on guitar. Shortly after, he moved to London working with Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins with post-punk band Drowning Craze, recording a John Peel session in 1982. While touring with Ministry in 1986, he met and began working with Buzz McCoy (Marston Daley) to write a film titled Hammerhead Housewife and the Thrill Kill Kult, which was never filmed but ultimately evolved into TKK and an EP released with Wax Trax! Records. Over the next nearly 30 years, Groovie Mann has established his iconic reputation with TKK and contributed songs to several movie soundtracks, even appearing in the 1994 cult classic film The Crow. He’s also established himself as an accomplished painter in the LA art community. His uniquely abstract style offers a further peak into the mind and art of Groovie Mann and are sold to fans around the world.

What would you consider to be the ‘crossroads’ that directly led to you actively pursuing a musical career?

My Insanity. – Groovie Mann

I would say my first Blue Eyed Christ record deal with KK Records in Belgium right out of High School for Leaders + Followers. It legitimized what I was doing for the first time and made me realize people outside of my bedroom studio may be interested in what I was doing.
JDN

John D. Norten also emerged from the 1990s Chicago Industrial scene as the leader of Blue Eyed Christ. The debut album, Leaders + Followers, was released internationally on Belgians classic EBM/Industrial label KK Records while still in his teens. Over the next few years, Blue Eyed Christ was featured on several prominent compilations and played the New Music Seminar in 1992 at the Limelight with Clock DVA and Chemlab. Blue Eyed Christ continued playing visceral live shows throughout the 90s and Norten continued recording at Chicago Trax Recording Studios working with established musicians and engineers from Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, and more. In 1996, Norten relocated to Los Angeles and has established himself as an in demand mixer and engineer for many of the biggest artists in the world including The Black Eyed Peas, Prince, CeeLo Green, and Lady GaGa.

How are you inspired to start a song and how does that develop from writing to composition, recording, and completion? What was the process for this project?

Jump into it -improvise with & without notes, laugh & cry & argue with the producer. – Groovie Mann

I usually start with the drums and music, but really anything can be the creative spark. When I first met with Groovie Mann he came over and I played him a bunch of instrumental tracks I had and he choose the ones that inspired him the most lyrically. He would write to them while he paints at home and then come over with notebooks full of ideas and inspirational goodies. Once we wrote the lyrics and recorded his vocals, I’d go back in and add more music and elements and we’d arrange that into the songs. The whole process was very organic. – JDN

Cross & Divide ultimately reflects both their shared roots as well as their unique and individual approaches to songwriting and recording. Groovie Mann’s spontaneous and poetic lyrical reactions to Norten’s carefully constructed song productions makes for a compelling mix of something new with enough of a nod to the past sure to please the old school fans and the newly initiated.

Tiger Eyes Media Announces Release of Feature Length Sci-Fi Thriller, Caller ID Entity

Acclaimed Director Eric Zimmerman–responsible for some of the most iconic rock, metal, and industrial videos in history, including Nine Inch Nails’ “Down in It” and “Head Like a Hole,” and Soundgarden’s“Jesus Christ Pose” and “Rusty Cage,” among many others–has expanded his legendary dark vision into feature films with the release of Caller ID Entity.

Based on actual phone messages and testimonials, this sci-fi movie explores phenomena from victims of mind control research and features James DuvalNathan BextonDenny KirkwoodDouchan GersiTriton B. An Exclusive Premiere Screening of the film will be held at Ahrya Fine Arts By Laemmle, see below for ticket and screening information.

“This movie was inspired by real-life phone messages I received from an anonymous woman. The messages are very disturbing, and I imagined what the story behind them could be. As I investigated further, I discovered a whole underground network of psychological torture, victims of mind control experimentation. Everything in the movie is based on real messages and victim testimonials. It makes you wonder where this technology is really going in the near future,” explains Zimmerman. “To reverse-engineer a story from actual phone messages is a different approach to making a movie. I’m not sure if its ever been done before. The style also reflects the fragmentation and paranoia of having your brain hacked. This project, though challenging, inspired all of us to push beyond the limits of the traditional film-making process.”

Wax Trax! Veterans Groovie Mann (My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult) & JDN (Blue Eyed Christ) Team Up to Form Trash Deity

Chicago Wax Trax! veterans Groovie Mann (My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult) and JDN (John D. Norten of Blue Eyed Christ) have combined their considerable talents to create Trash Deity, an eclectic Industrial project combining classic sounds with modern, polished music production. Over the last several months, the duo have written and produced their introductory EP, Run 4 Your Lies!, release date TBA. The Official Video for their debut single, “Finger on a Trigger,” was created by photographer and graphic artist Neil Kull and features the compellingly vivid paintings of Groovie Mann himself.

I think the forthcoming EP is a really exciting representation of Groovie Mann and I experimenting and discovering what our sound is as Trash Deity. It’s an eclectic EP because we weren’t locked into a sound or expectation from our previous projects. One song is electronic for the clubs with a pounding bass line and signature Groovie Mann maniacal vocal chants, then another is a sexy dirty strip club anthem. Each song has it’s own identity, but the EP still sounds totally cohesive and chaotic at the same time…just like us! – JDN

the vibrations from my mother’s record player that she kept under my crib. She was 19. – Groovie Mann

The defining moment for me was my first concert, Duran Duran, when I was in 6th grade. I looked around and thought…”That’s what I want”. It was a very powerful image at that time and age, Nick Rhodes with the Fairlight Sampling Keyboard and the futuristic sights and sounds. The music and lyrics were very mysterious inviting me into their world and I was very intrigued. – JDN

Sunndrug Release New Song “Shining”

Virginia Beach quintet Sunndrug has signed with Mind Over Matter Records to release their debut full-length, Exit Wounds, this fall. The group is streaming a new single from the album called “Shining”.

‘Shining’ was the last song we wrote before starting to record the album,” says vocalist Jimmy Reeves, who is also known for being the original bassist of the band Spitfire. “Its working title was ‘bonham song’ because the sonic inspiration for it came from the way Led Zeppelin played the blues. Its a jilted love story based around the setting of a well curated online life being a mirage for a person whose reality doesn’t live up to it. The end of the song is a moment on the record I’m particularly proud of because I think the music evokes something even without lyrics.

Sunndrug began as a songwriting outlet for Reeves as he worked his way through a crumbling relationship of over 10 years. When Reeves started writing Exit Wounds, he rekindled a musical partnership with former bandmate Chris Raines, who was the original drummer of Spitfire and also spent some time drumming in the metalcore band Norma Jean. The album constructs a narrative of a man coming apart at the seams as he attempts to get a fix on a reality that is nothing more than sand in his fist. After they completed the 12 tracks they enlisted a seasoned crew of musicians to help them take the songs to the stage.

Exit Wounds was mixed by Jeremy Simeon Howell Griffith and mastered by Andreas Magnusson. Pre-orders will soon be live at http://www.mindovermatterrecords.com/ and the album will also be available on vinyl.

Tour Dates:

9/10 @ 25 Watt – Richmond, VA
9/23 @ Back Bay Brewing – Virginia Beach, VA
9/24 @ The Garage – Winston-Salem, NC
11/05 @ Back Bay Brewing – Virginia Beach, VA

About Sunndrug:

No matter how far we wander, we always return home. For Jimmy Reeves and Chris Raines, this is true in the sense of not only their geography but also their musical partnership.

Exit Wounds began as a song-writing outlet for Reeves as he worked his way through a crumbling relationship of over 10 years and his former bandmate was yearning for a new musical venture after his hiatus from the road. The two continued to construct a narrative of a man coming apart at the seams as he attempts to get a fix on a reality that is nothing more than sand in his fist. During this time, Reeves made his way back to Virginia Beach.

The duo completed the song writing and then enlisted a seasoned crew of musicians to help them take these songs to the stage and Sunndrug was officially born.

Their debut record touches on themes of self-loathing and self-idolatry – that voice in your head that whispers to you that no one knows better than you do. Besides, you’re numb. Keep going, no matter the cost.

Exit Wounds is dark not only in its subject matter, but also in its tone and instrumentation. By seamlessly integrating electronics into the ebbing and flowing crashes, parts of this debut LP almost feel industrial, but not without a thick layer of melody floating on top of it. This is the sound of despair. This is the sound of thinking you’ve got it all figured out when nothing is as it seems.
