West Palm Beach, FL based Stoner Rock Band HELL & HOLLAR has released the official music video for “Showdown,” off of their debut EP, 442.
“We are so excited to release our first music video “Showdown”, from our debut EP 442 that is available now! ‘Showdown’ came into the Nashville studio with us as an unfinished idea. With the help of our great friends at Lust For Tone Studio we finished it and we did so by giving it a Nashville kick that gives the song a very southern rock vibe we really enjoy. Our director and cinematographer Cam Brooks had the great idea to do a Cool Hand Luke inspired theme which was a lot of fun to film and we really think everyone is going to enjoy watching it. We are also very excited to be heading out on our Why The Hell Not Summer Tour at the end of June. We will be making stops in Johnson City TN June 26th, Summerfest in Milwaukee WI June 28th, Raleigh, NC July 5th and more dates to be announced soon. So be sure to follow us, Hell & Hollar on all our social media channels to stay up to date. We can’t wait to see you all out there!” – HELL & HOLLAR

Toronto, Canada based political rock band IRON AGE MYSTICS is returning the spirit of progressive protest to the genre with the first track off of their upcoming, debut LP, Pride Before the Fall, “Save it For the Revolution.” A rally cry for those who know that this system is a fraud, “Save it For the Revolution” is a hell bent rejection of the societal sickness of today.
“Iron Age Mystics represent the current cutting edge of political rock music, so say many. The strengths of this band range widely, but the message of each song consistently occupies the driver’s seat. Overall, the recordings and themes are intended to deliver a bracing sense of self-empowerment in the face of what appears to be overwhelming odds. The bottom line here is: if you’re willing to take on some of today’s most pressing issues disguised as well-crafted rock songs, this might be the band for you.”
“Wielding Pride Before the Fall, IAM charges right up to the front lines of the struggle to reclaim Meaning and Purpose in Rock ‘n’ Roll.” The Greylock Glass
IAM started as a writing project initiated by Greg Mount (drums) with members Clayton Rudy (bass guitar), Allan Wohng (guitar) and Kevin Connelly (vocals). The guys hit musical ‘pay dirt’ at about the 4th or 5th month of jamming together bi-weekly with the earliest version of “You’ve Got The Power.” That one track set the tone for the writing that was to become the IAM signature or ‘brand,’ if you will.
The next couple of years were spent between the rehearsal studio, the recording studio and the live stage.
After concluding his part in the recording of IAM’s 8th studio track “Pride Before The Fall”, Greg Mount (drummer) had to step out of the recording process and so Alexander ‘Sascha’ Tukatsch (who played percussion on an earlier track entitled “Down Deep”) stepped in to complete the album. Similarly, Allan Wohng (guitarist) was stricken with a condition that hampered his ability on guitar so Chuck Brown completed the record.
IAM was and is an ongoing project that is steeped in talent, integrity and a true obsession towards making ‘Music That Matters,’ because that’s what matters…
In this human-centric world, natural law is almost completely absent. To no surprise, the most of what you see, eat, hear, read and breathe—and many of the idols you hold so dear—are violently corrupt. Make no mistake, this is by design.
So in retrospect, why would I, as the author of this album, elect to spend years of my creative energies and large sums of money I really didn’t have working paycheck to paycheck to produce this little gem, knowing full well that it had little to no chance of commercial success?
Simple, really: I was so gripped by the pain-ridden part of my humanity, I had such a constant knowing that ‘evil’ was winning, that I could not subvert it anymore. Many of my traditional heroes died in my heart throughout that process. Then, I felt very alone. Possibly like you.
For my part I intended this album to inspire those who can see through the artifice of gross, inhuman bigotry, whilst taking the piss out of a few false idols of our culture. Principally, challenging our blind adherence to self-proclaimed authority in its many forms. A little boost of adrenaline for the ‘eyes wide open’ people who are waking up to the fight.
Realize that no matter on which side of the political spectrum you stand, few persons engaged in the constant pursuit of power have any loyalty to you. Yet for the most part, these are our idols. Unfortunately today, we have very little loyalty to each other as peoples and are, therefore, easily divided. It’s become so simple to exploit us, a child could do it. Time, money, resources, vast infrastructure…no problem.
So I ask of you: please set aside your differences and be brave enough to know that you don’t know exactly what’s going on, and be human enough to know that it’s rapidly getting worse for everyone and everything. ‘Evil’ is conscious kids, and it currently rules the rock, and it’s probably not who or what you think it is. Stop trashing your neighbor over petty differences and at least try to embrace a much bigger picture. We have much more in common with each other than we do the with the elite.
Finally, in my opinion, we now exist on the edge of a precipice that could be a deeply stressful breakthrough for human consciousness or WW3 or maybe even worse, total statist control of every aspect of our lives. If I were a gambling man, l’d say the last latter option is the most likely. That said, I’m not a gambling man…
As a species, we are callous, cruel, self-possessed and inherently prone to creating our own fantasy worlds around ourselves. However, we are also brilliant, bold, beautiful, selfless, and when in crisis, can rise to almost any occasion.
I won’t underestimate what humanity could and really must do. We need to realize that we are all that we have and we are truly the stewards of the Earth as it is today. Every other living thing here on planet Earth depends on us waking up to that fact. Fast.
It could happen. I’m not holding my breath on it, but in my heart, I’m quietly counting on it.
KEVIN CONNELLY: Lyricist & Songwriter’s Perspective
Seattle Alternative Rock Band VENDETTA RED has released the official lyric video for their single, “Entantado,” off of their first full length album since 2005, Quinceañera, via Cleopatra Records. VENDETTA RED is also finishing up their tour with PUDDLE OF MUDD through April.
Montreal based, blues-infused rock band The Damn Truthhas released the official music video for “Alex,” off of their 2016 released Devilish Folk. Directed by Erica Orofino, “Alex” presents yet another complex layer to the critically acclaimed band’s diverse song writing.
“Some stories, some moments, change you. Change the way you look at the world. Change the way the world looks at you. We wear our scars on the inside. They are invisible, but you feel like everyone can see.
This moment in time changed me to my core and in fact, shaped me to be the person I am today.
ALEX – I promise I will NEVER FORGET” – Lee-la Baum
“The sixth track on ‘Devilish Folk’ is ‘Alex’…The song kind of switches gears with an angelic clean opening influenced by good ole delta blues. The song hits you with a very “star-crossed lovers” situation; bittersweet, loving, and forlorn.
‘Alex’ still gives the power of Baum’s vocals and lets it shine, but you can feel the sadness and grief while she bellows out the pain.” – Gonzo Today

Over the years, Canada has given us a lot of great bands; Neil Young , Alanis Morrisette, Arcade Fire, Bryan Adams, The Guess Who, BTO, Rush and many more.
Well, now there’s a new name you can add to that list; The Damn Truth.
Singer-guitarist Lee-la Baum has been called the love child of Robert Plantand Janis Joplin; mixing up the best of the classic rock the band loves with the indie energy of their hometown Montreal scene.
The band is here to introduce their new album (their 2nd), Devilish Folk, meet their American fans, and promote the new single, “White Lies”.
But the journey to get here has been a Behind The Music tale of drama, misfortune, and lucky breaks.
For example, you could say there’s nothing more rock n’ roll than your van blowing up in the middle of your biggest national tour to date. Unless of course, you’re The Damn Truth, and you’ve barely escaped with just the clothes on your back while most everything else is up in flames. And, oh yeah, it’s pitch black in the middle of nowhere in the northern Canadian backwoods. And you’ve got your 3-year old son and his babysitter also on board. And, did we mention it’s in the middle of winter – A Canadian winter.
“We had literally just driven out from a garage in the last town where the mechanic told us everything was fine. Thank god this car drove up beside us on the highway – waving their arms frantically – and told us that the van was on fire . We stopped, got as much stuff out as we could, and then literally watched the van blow up in front of us; all our gear – gone.” remembers drummer Dave Traina.
Nothing has ever come easy for The Damn Truth, but for every adversity there has been some unexpected reward. In this case, they quickly scrambled a funding campaign that raised over ten thousand dollars within 24 hours. The experience brought out the best from their fans and the local community and a renewed faith in the power of music. The tour continued. The shows – and their belief in rock n’roll – got stronger.
And now The Damn Truth are set to do it all over again (except for the blowing up part, of course).
A lot of good things have happened since then for the Montreal based quartet such as singer Lee-la Baum turning in a heart-stopping vocal for an Yves St Laurent TV commercial- their new perfume, Mon Paris, that is rolling out worldwide. The vocal (a cover of “Love Is Blindness” by U2) has had such an impact, raking in over 400K views, thousands of comments, emails and orders have come in from around the globe, exposing the band to a wide audience of new “Truth Seekers “.
The Damn Truth have their roots definitely in 60s and 70s rock ,but they are adding to that palette with alt-rock and indie-rock and whatever-else-kind-of rock attitudes and power; basically, what makes the music stronger is all that counts. Consider the pedigree of the alternative and classic rock credentials of Devilish Folk.
Devilish Folk mixed by Grammy-award winner Tchad Blake(Black Keys, Pearl Jam, Arctic Monkeys, and others). All this power was brought to the forefront via the mastering of John Davis, responsible for the recent Led Zeppelin re-issues in addition to work with U2, Lana del Ray, Stone Roses, Florence & The Machine, and others.
The Damn Truth have always been a self-contained unit; producing their own records, videos, and hanging out old-school after a show; meeting the fans one by one.
“We’ve had to work hard every step of the way,” says lead guitarist Tom Shemer. “But that’s ok. People know it’s real when they come to the shows”.
Part of that ethos is the family vibe amongst the band; Tom and Lee-la travel with their 3-year old son “there has never been a choice in the matter. Rock n’ roll has always been our lives and his too. He’s been on tour since he was 2 months old. “ says Lee-la
The Damn Truth are Lee-la Baum (vocals/guitar), Tom Shemer (guitars), PY Letellier (bass) and Dave Traina (drums). There are echoes of Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Gretta Van Fleet, and Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes, all of it uniquely channelled through Lee-la’s powerful vocals; creating an emotional rock that’s both distinguished them and made them something of a musical anomaly.
“Jimi Hendrix taught me everything I needed to know about that rock’n’roll attitude,” says Lee-la, “and he was my first real rockstar crush!”
The world is evolving , rock n’ roll and social norms are changing.
Women are taking charge and Lee-la Baum and The Damn Truth are here to break those sexist stigmas every step of the way.
Dallas, TX based Nu-Metal Band Phoenix Risinghas released the Official Music Video for their newest single “Lights Out,” off of their upcoming debut LP, From the Ashes. A love letter to UFC and ESports, this high energy music video follows a day in the life of an MMA fighter and ESports Street Fighter 5 gamer as they get ready for their respective tournament matches.
“The newest single from PHOENIX RISING, “LIGHTS OUT” is one of the most aggressive songs in our repertoire. This is an anthem for those people who are constantly getting kicked down by life and the ongoing struggles that never seem to cease. We will never be beaten! ‘You think its an easy win, I am a phoenix and I just rise again.’
For the video, we decided to make it a love letter to UFC and Esports since everyone in the band enjoys MMA matches and competitive video games. We wanted a high energy music video that shows a day in the life of a MMA fighter and Esports Street Fighter 5 gamer in parallel as they get ready for their respective tournament matches.
The two fighters awaken with purpose and the video instantly delves into their day. The fighters train, practice combinations, and go to the tournament all culminating in the final knockout against their nemesis.
The video showcases PHOENIX RISING not only performing in the octagon ring, we wanted each member to have a cameo in the video as well!
‘LIGHTS OUT’ has a ton of attitude and is built to get the blood pumping with driving beats combined with aggressive riffs. With lyrics like “Step inside the ring I’m ready to go”, we wanted “LIGHTS OUT” to give you the motivational energy to get up and fight for what you want out of life.” – Phoenix Rising
PHOENIX RISING, based out of Dallas, Texas, came together in 2017 in the most unlikely of places: a Craigslist ad posted by Vocalist Kent Summerour in search of like-minded musicians who not only wanted to make music with substance, but who wanted to create a live spectacle like nothing else in the local music scene. After a short search and a lot of luck, the ad was answered by five seasoned musicians one of whom was Australian. Comprised of a second vocalist, guitar, synth and a whole lot of rhythm, PHOENIX RISING was born.
Like setting fire to gas, the newly formed group had written an album’s worth of material in one month, and the search for producers began. This search led PHOENIX RISING to Tyler Smyth; however Smyth was on tour six hours away in San Antonio . With no way to get in touch with Smyth, Kent went down to San Antonio with a pillow and a sleeping bag, on a mission to maneuver himself back stage, and persuade Smyth to listen to the demos, hoping that after hearing the music, Smyth would be driven to work with the band. Mission Complete, Smyth agreed to work with PHOENIX RISING in LA and shortly thereafter, the band flew out to record their debut album From the Ashes.
With the Album complete, supported by several Music Video’s – PHOENIX RISING now look forward to drawing emotion from the listener and inspire fans with their powerful stage show. The music has a very “overcoming” quality to it. Musically and lyrically, PHOENIX RISING wants you to stand up for what you believe in and overcome any and all adversity that blocks your path.

A hard-driving Southern rock unit based out of Palestine, Texas, Blacktop Mojo’s fiery blend of post-grunge, classic rock, and metal falls somewhere between Soundgarden, Black Stone Cherry, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Founded in 2012 by front-man Matt James and drummer Nathan Gillis, the band eventually morphed into a five-piece with the additions of bass player Matt Curtis and guitarists Ryan Kiefer and Kenneth Irwin. They released their debut album, I Am, in 2014, followed by a heavy bout of touring that saw the group sharing the stage with a wide array of heavy hitters, including Bon Jovi, Sammy Hagar, Candlebox, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Shaman’s Harvest, Pop Evil, Puddle of Mudd, and Drowning Pool.
In 2017, the band teamed up with Muscle Shoals producer Jimmy Johnsonfor their highly anticipated sophomore outing Burn the Ships. The album was released via the band’s label, Cuhmon Records, in March of that year to critical acclaim, and it’s first single, “Where The Wind Blows” reached #27 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, while the band was on its first U.S. tour that fall. Through that tour, they landed a slot on 2018’s Rock Fest, featuring headliners Disturbed, Incubus, and Godsmack, among many other industry leading hard rock acts.
At the beginning of 2018, the band has started work on its third full length release, as well as touring to support the second radio single from, Burn The Ships.

New Jersey based rock / metal multi-instrumentalist Christopher Dean (Michale Graves, Darkness Descends, Alyxx) has released his official lyric video for the single “Everything Fades,” off of his debut album, Life Lessons.
“’Everything Fades’ is a song about Love and Loss and yet the World still turns.”” Christopher Dean
“This album is so near and dear to my heart. Each track is a different journey down the rabbit hole of another Life Lesson I was lucky enough to learn the hard way because I myself prefer the road less traveled, for it is only on those paths that we are lucky enough to experience Emotion colliding with Inspiration while tumbling in the Imagination of our minds. As musicians, it is our duty to bring those experiences to life through our art. “Life Lessons” is like a psychological fall and rise again emotional journey mixed with punk rock, blastbeats and a 7 string.”
1) Punknight’s Finale
2) Everything Fades
3) Dust To Dust
4) Enjoy The Ride
5) Blast From the Past
6) Gone With The Wind
7) Lean In Lean Toward Lean With
8) Lover (Ten Years Ago)
9) My Everything (Why I Try)
10) Nanu Nanu (We Miss You)
11) Bleeding Her for More
12) Perennial Rust
Dean is a self-taught guitar-smith with pounds of passion combined with years of determination and an over achieving brain that yearns for endless knowledge. On the eve of his 13th birthday, the embers of a burning desire began an everlasting journey toward a blissful state as long as harmony and melody were at the helm. Growing up in a small town in New Jersey, Dean came from a working family, so when it came time to learn the techniques of the craft, it was up to making friends at a local music shop who would discuss the wonderful world of guitar and the endless possibilities. Through the years it became more of the bottomless enigma that he had to crack, so at every single VFW hall or firehouse punk show, Dean would study the hands of the talent on stage and their every move. Soon Dean was playing all of the live albums of any band he could find, down to the guitar spins and all. Hard work and dedication persevered because, before he knew it, he wasn’t just playing the midnight blue Ibanez with a blood soaked pic guard and a Felix the cat sticker, he now had a (1 of 6) Marilyn Manson custom guitar that he worked for 3 solid months of the summer his Sophomore year in HS just to afford….Then it all changed…. From there the quest to understand this intrinsic world became even greater…. Even more addicting. The itch to plug in his axe somewhere and KRANK it to 11 was even stronger with this young, notorious adolescent.
Naturally, as time went on, this grew as a way for this completely misunderstood teen to use this gift that he had so magnanimously received, to become a form of creative therapy. “JUST AN AXE ON MY BACK,” that wasn’t his motto per se but definitely the lifestyle that was led. By Senior year he had been voted most musical of his graduating class, not because anyone ever listened to him play, other than when his band DEATHSICK blew the death metal doors off the performing theatre during the talent show, but more because he had a guitar in a hard case with him EVERY DAY IN EVERY CLASS. The Manson guitar had its own table in his JR year Anatomy and Physiology class….Right by the bucket of cow eyes and baby frogs.
After finishing high school and then college, he joined several bands out of the back page ads of local music billboards and magazines, many everlasting life lessons were learned. His first REAL jump to “success” was in 2011 when he joined up with his best friend Angry Jay along brothers at arms, Chuck Gowan and Zaki Ali, to form the super slow motion breakdown masters Darkness Descends, which lead to SIRIUS XM radio play and air time interviews, alongside two album releases and co-headlining stage spots on the both the Bamboozle and GOTJ festivals. These accomplishments only fed the monster.
In 2013, all of those countless hours disassembling, painting and Frankenstein-ing of his arsenal of Amps and Axes, Dean landed his first 6 week full us tour as the guitar tech for Darrow Chemical Company. Before the completion of the tour, the lead guitarist Loki had to leave early due to a severe family emergency, so the band asked Dean to fill in on Lead Guitar, and it was one of the best moments of his life, it’s every musician’s dream. This was the moment he had been waiting for. Sure he was playing tons of shows for years, but there is something different about cruising Tarvan around the country basically living on $7/day for over a month, all in the name of PUNK ROCK. This opportunity lead to further touring and Tech gigs for bands such as Gotham Rd (tech 2014), Michale Graves (tech 2015/bass 2017 to current), The Independents(bass us tour 2015), Black Cat Attack (Lead Guitar various shows US and Canada 2015), GOTH from Portugal (2016 Lead Guitar various shows 2016) The Draf Ft. Retro Glam (Special Guest solo on single release collaboration), Children of October (Bass and back up Vox 2016), Alyxx (Bass 2017-current).
That being said, it may seem like a lot on the plate of destiny, But Wait There’s More. Starting September 2016 Dean began studio time composing his debut solo album, justly deemed Life Lessons, officially released on Friday the 13th of October 2017 everywhere. This album consists of 13 tracks of true emotion and the precarious journey of dealing with the real things that happen in life from death and divorce, love and loss, and everything we deal with day to day that tries to break us down. This album stands as a testament to Deans constant strive to never just give up. This album is about having the strength to make art out of life’s lemons. Our relationships with our fellow man are constantly how one is defined, this is only the beginning.
Dean is now a brand including (but not limited to) Music, Skateboards, Tattoos, Beard Oil, T-shirts, Characters, Guitar Pickups and more. Those who choose to do what they live-in turn love what they do.
